So two business women walk onto the beach . . .


More than anything, I love having the opportunity to flex my creativity - and there's no better way to do that than with a portrait session, particularly with someone i've worked with before in the past. Nara was the first person to ever book a branding session with me, and that session still remains to be one of my favorites ever. Of course I jumped at the opportunity of seeing her again!


This session was remarkable in that its ingredients really were just simple: just a girl and the sea and some golden light. While I love a good branding session, I do think it's quite clear that my creativity glows brightest when I am outside and playing with natural lighting.


This session ended up becoming my cinematic dream. Silly things happened - a random lady moving my bag at least three times, a big wave that caught us both off guard - but you wouldn't know that from these photos. You just see a beautiful woman having an amazing day at the beach, but I see a really talented businesswoman who wanted to make art with met yet again.


Torrey Pines gave us everything - golden light, soft mist, massive sandy cliffs. When I go about editing sessions like this, I like to focus on just enhancing the colors and the scene that's already there. This gallery was an absolute blast to edit (not that it needed much of it) and I am so happy with the outcome.


I think that more people in their 20's should take on a portrait session. Aging is a beautiful thing, but so are memories... and I think it's important to document all stages of life as they come. I think that people assume that you can't book a professional photographer unless you're undergoing a huge event, like a wedding, an engagement, etc... but what's stopping you from booking a session to just document your day at the beach? What's stopping you from booking a couples session to bring your photographer along on a pizza date, or a coffee date? Photography sessions don't have to be a pivotal moment in your life - they can just be to celebrate you, in this very moment.


I can't wait to get my grummy little hands on another session where I have someone wanting anything remotely similar to this - cinematic, documentary-style, and absolutely full of soul.
