Maternity session at Windansea Beach during golden hour . . .
There’s something truly magical about Windansea Beach during golden hour — when the sun drips low over the Pacific, turning everything it touches into a soft, glowing dream. It was the perfect setting for this sweet maternity session.
They voiced early on that they liked my cinematic style, so I kept that in mind with every prompt and pose I used. Cinematic photography is all about preserving not just how it looked, but how it felt in that moment. With that in mind, I do very little still poses, and instead encourage my couples to interact with each other. People aren't perfectly still in movies, and they won't be in my photography, either!
Windansea Beach gave us everything: the wild beauty of the cliffs, the calm serenity of the tide pools, and the sweeping views that stretch endlessly into the horizon. As the sun sank lower, it felt like time paused just for them — a final chapter before a new life begins.
For maternity sessions, I believe in creating images that feel timeless. Not overly posed, but full of movement, emotion, and light. This golden hour maternity session was exactly that: effortless, natural, breathtaking. When editing, I knew that I wanted to lean into the natural colors of the scene, and just amplify them a little. I love Windansea because it always has deep teal waters and warm orange sand, which really helps in terms of perfecting color theory.
If you’re dreaming of a maternity session by the ocean, Windansea Beach is one of San Diego’s most stunning backdrops. And when paired with golden hour’s cinematic light? It’s pure magic.
