using art to capture other forms of art . . .
I am always incredibly excited to receive new inquiries, but I would be lying if I didn't mention that this was one of the projects I have been the most excited to receive, ever. There's always that possibility when someone reaches out to me that they still may decide to go another direction, so it was an absolute dream when she told me that she was going with me.
Misha's studio was actually a little garage, but you wouldn't be able to tell that from most of these pictures. We opted for shooting in the morning, right around the time that you can see the sun coming up over the mountains in the distance. I never even touched my flash - this entire session was used with natural light alone, which is my favorite way to work.
If you're at all familiar with my work, you'll notice that I pay a lot of attention to hands. This session was an excuse to do nothing but watch her hands work and mold the clay, so you can rest assured that this was certainly my dream session.
I'm not super adverse with pottery, but I've always found it fascinating - much like photography, you're using your hands to form and create something beautiful. Having the opportunity to show Misha's passion for what she does through stills of her doing exactly what it is that she loves was really incredible. Misha herself is very sweet and down to earth and is, without a single doubt in my mind, an absolute expert in her field. I believe she's actually going to be opening her own studio and having classes, which speaks to her success. You can see her work on instagram and etsy!

I am not the photographer for everyone when it comes to branding sessions. I don't enjoy working with flash, and because my work mostly leans more cinematic, I don't produce that 'editorial' look that more commercial or large businesses want. However, every now and then some amazing opportunity like this stumbles across my way, and I get someone who trusts my vision and capabilities, and you end up with a branding session that is completely unique and unlike any other in that field.
