Should you do bridal portraits?


I'll be honest - there's a million reasons to do bridal portraits, but I can't think of many reasons at all not to do them.


If you're considering booking a bridal portrait session, or are looking for bridal portrait ideas that feel romantic, timeless, and even a little editorial... look no further.

What are bridal portraits?


We all know those iconic photo shoots in Vogue magazine where the key element is bridal fashion. To me, bridal portraits take inspiration from that - fashion photography, but a little more you.


The goal is creating art that encapsulates you as a bride or groom. They're photographs that look like art and are still you.



It's true that you only get married once, so it's my opinion that you should most definitely pull out all of the stops and fully lean into the feeling that you have while you're getting married.

Making time for bridal portraits.


This can happen either on your wedding day, or before or after your wedding day itself. Sometimes the madness of a wedding day doesn't allow you the time to get all the portraits that you want. Maybe you want to spend more time with your family and less time one on one with your photographer... and that is okay! Your wedding day should unfold however you want it to. But just because you prioritize something on the day-of doesn't mean that you have to omit it entirely. It's becoming increasingly popular to book bridal portraits after the wedding has already taken place. You only wear the dress once or twice in your life. How special is it to have a reason to put it on again?

So you're intrigued... what's the next step?


The next step is just finding a photographer who aligns with your vision! Most couples or wedding photographers are always down for a bridal portrait session. You can ask the wedding photographer you already had, or you could also go an entirely different direction. Maybe you booked a cinematic wedding photographer or a documentary wedding photographer but you want a more editorial style photographer for your bridal portraits. You can absolutely do just that!


The photos you've seen throughout this post are actually some bridal portraits done by me, on a mix of digital and film. The theme was 'Wife in Bloom' and we took on a very garden-forward vibe.
