in the morning at Torrey Pines Glider Port . . .
This day was incredibly special for a multitude of reasons - it was a morning session, it was a location I love, and I was working with someone who's work I really, truly admire. Working with creatives is always such a special experience, and it's always incredible to meet people who are truly their art: Janna is all sunshine, and you can see that in every angle of this session.
This morning was perfect - just a little chilly, but the sun was warm and making the air hotter by the minute. Torrey Pines Glider Port is up on a cliff overlooking Black Beach, and I always find it so interesting how people look like ants and it's difficult to even tell the color of surfboards from that high up. This makes for spectacular views and just a hint of that sweet sea breeze I am now lucky enough to smell every week. Janna and Victor decided to go with this location because they wanted a cool view from the Jeep, and I recommended this little spot. It's never too busy in the morning, except for your hardcore surfers who brave the very long walk down to the beach.
The morning light was perfect once we started. I actually enjoy shooting in direct light, and I like playing with the shadows and the sun flares that doing so provides. Janna and Victor quickly revealed themselves to be a couple who was down for anything, which always makes for the best experience. I had them frolicking in the field, spinning around like fools, and reading letters in their Jeep. I experienced a first this session - sitting in the trunk of their car to get the shot. I won't be over this session for a really long time.
You can check out Janna's page @photosbyjannajo! She's San Diego and Minnesota based and her work is incredible - I am excited to mention I'll be having the opportunity to work with her for something personal real soon...
